Overview

CBSE is an important and widely used website, especially for students, parents, and educators. Despite its significance, the platform had several usability and accessibility issues that made navigation difficult and frustrating. This project aimed to transform the website into a more intuitive, user-friendly, and modern experience—without compromising on its functionality or purpose.

The CBSE website redesign focused on cutting the confusion—starting with ditching a cluttered main page that left users lost. With research, iterations, and an eye for usability, we tried building a cleaner, smarter, and more user-friendly experience.

The Problem?

As the central source of information for students, parents, and educators across the country, the CBSE website carries immense responsibility—but its user experience didn’t quite live up to the task. Instead of guiding users, it often left them guessing. With a cluttered interface, inconsistent design patterns, and poorly structured content, even basic tasks like locating results or circulars felt like navigating a digital obstacle course. For a platform of such importance, the experience was more frustrating than functional.

Website Usage & User Behavior

Website Usage & User Behavior

Users frequently visit exam-related pages, the homepage, and syllabus sections, emphasizing a strong focus on academic resources. While some consider the website helpful and informative, many users feel improvements in accessibility and content organization could enhance their overall experience.

Ideation 1

Ideation 1

We chose to eliminate the main page with six options as it caused confusion for users at the very beginning of their journey. Our primary focus was to determine the most effective way to integrate these options, ensuring that each served its distinct purpose without making navigation difficult. Through multiple iterations, we refined the structure to create a more seamless and intuitive user experience.

Learnings

This project was a crash course in why bad UX can make even the simplest tasks feel like solving a Rubik’s Cube blindfolded. Thorough research is crucial for identifying UX issues, while clear content organization improves navigation. Aesthetic design must prioritize usability and accessibility for inclusivity. Strong storytelling enhances impact.
